Step 7: Monitor and Reassess

The plan you have developed is the beginning of a long-term climate resilience building program for your community. Over time, you will gather data regarding the strategies being implemented and revisit the plan itself at regular intervals to ensure that it is based on the best information as it comes available and that it identifies and addresses new vulnerabilities as they develop.

Be sure to review the chapter of the Guide that corresponds to this Step before getting started.

This step does not contain any tasks, templates, or tutorial videos.

Step 6: Implement the Plan

Now that your planning work is done, it is time to take action to implement the strategies in your Climate Resilience Plan. In this step, you will create an Implementation Task Force, develop a detailed implementation plan, and get started on the first strategies in the plan.

Be sure to review the chapter of the Guide that corresponds to this Step before getting started.

Step 5: Finalize and Share the Plan

You have been engaging with your community throughout the process leading up to this moment where you and the Task Force have a draft Climate Resilience Plan to share with the community. In this step, you will bring together the primers, Vulnerability Assessment report, and Resilience Strategies report to develop the Climate Resilience Plan for your community.

Be sure to review the chapter of the Guide that corresponds to this Step before getting started.

Step 4: Develop and Prioritize Resilience Strategies

Now that you have identified your community’s climate-related vulnerabilities, it is time to develop strategies to address them. In this step, you will prepare for and facilitate a workshop with local experts and stakeholders to develop strategies to build climate resilience. The Resilience Strategies report that results from the workshop is the last piece that needs to be developed before develop a draft Climate Resilience Plan in Step 5.>

Be sure to review the chapter of the Guide that corresponds to this Step before getting started.

Step 3: Identify and Prioritize Vulnerabilities

Now that you have a clear understanding of climate trends in your local area, it is time to determine what those trends mean for your community. In this step, you will prepare for and facilitate a workshop with local experts and stakeholders to identify and prioritize climate-related vulnerabilities. The Vulnerability Assessment report that results from the workshop will determine which vulnerabilities become the focus for resilience strategies in Step 4.

Be sure to review the chapter of the Guide that corresponds to this Step before getting started.

Step 2: Assess Past and Future Trends

You are now entering the research phase of this process, where you and your Task Force will gather climate data as well as information about your local economy, demographics, and natural systems. This information will serve as the foundation for your efforts in Step 3 to determine the community’s climate-related vulnerabilities.

Be sure to review the chapter of the Guide that corresponds to this Step before getting started.

Step 1: Launch the Project

Let’s get started! In this step, you will lay the groundwork for a successful resilience process. Depending on what work your community has done on the issue, this step may be very quick, or it might take many months. You will use this foundation throughout the process, so take the time to engage with stakeholders and figure out the best way to communicate with your community before moving on to Step 2.
